About Us

WHO WE ARE:

We are a grain and nut free company dedicated to health and wellbeing.  Our desire is to create a product that people with a variety of dietary restrictions, food sensitivities and food allergies can enjoy without worry.

WHY THE NAME COPRANOLA?

My dad’s the one who came up with the name actually.  He researched and discovered that the technical name for dried coconut is actually Copra.  Since our product does not contain any grain it definitely can’t be called “Grainola or Granola” so we decided on Copranola.

WHAT IS COLIBRÍ?

ColibrÍ means Hummingbird in Spanish.  Ever since my husband and I met, 22 years ago, we have been followed by hummingbirds.  Sometimes a real bird would swoop down to say hello, or we might notice a hummingbird picture or a work of art.  Somehow, the image of hummingbirds has always been with us. When we married, we had a hummingbird monogram on our invitations and my Aunt made the best tiered cheesecakes decorated with flying hummingbirds and beautifully tied together with ribbon. So it seemed only fitting that when we decided to create our company our name should have to do with hummingbirds!

HOW DID YOU CREATE THE RECIPE?

After several years suffering with a variety of illnesses the doctors couldn’t explain, except to say ‘it was all in my head’.  I finally landed in the care of a Naturopathic doctor who suggested I try an elimination diet. That was a huge eye opener on how much our food intake can affect our health for better or for worse.  I was avoiding grains amongst many other foods and due to my sons severe nut allergies that was definitely not an option. So how could I enjoy a bowl of fruit and granola without using any grains or nuts?  Well, I had made a recipe containing toasted shaved coconut. I thought, huh, I can use that as the base. Then I looked through my fridge and my eyes landed on a variety of seeds I had. Of course this was a late night craving, so I had to drag my husband out of bed to come try my new recipe.  After the first bite his eyes just about popped out of his head he couldn’t believe how good it was! He’s been eating it ever since.
